Meet us at Innotrans 2024!

From Sept. 24-27, meet us at Berlin Messe at the leading international trade fair for transport technology.

Visit us at booth #435, hall 11.1.

Meet our team to discuss your needs and discover our solutions and latest innovations for on-board electrical measurement, trackside monitoring, and energy metering.

Today, high-speed trains, city transit systems (metro, trams, and trolleybuses) as well as freight trains are the solutions against pollution and interstate traffic immobility, also providing significant energy savings. Furthermore, power electronics is essential to drive and control energy in these transportation systems.

LEM has been a main player in traction power electronics, onboard metering, and trackside applications for the last 50 years. We leverage this vast experience to develop and supply solutions for isolated current and voltage measurements as well as for trackside applications and energy metering.

On-board current sensors

LF On-board current sensors

In railway applications, Open Loop and Closed Loop technologies are most common in inverter applications. Fluxgate sensors are used for more specific measurements, such as differential current measurement and energy metering. Whatever your requirements are, LEM is supporting your application with best-in-class technology and a full range of sensors including, for example, the LF series.

The LF series offers excellent accuracy, very good linearity, low temperature drift, optimized response time, wide frequency bandwidth, no insertion losses, high immunity to external interference, and current overload capability.

On-board voltage sensors

DV On-board voltage sensors

Many railway applications require precise voltage measurement and demanding insulation characteristics. Following the EN 50163, our portfolio covers the need not only for 1.5 and 3kV DC-networks for countries like France, Italy, Netherlands, etc., but also for metro and light rail tracks on 600/750V level. All LEM voltage sensors have been qualified to EN 50155.

The DV-series has been tested to EN 50463, furthermore offering an intermediate statement verification (ISV) for TSI LOC&PAS. As for our current sensors, we adhere to railway requirements such as IRIS, RoHS, ISO 9001.

Trackside sensors

HTRS trackside current sensors

From the beginning in the 1970’s, LEM has been offering solutions for the entire railway system. In various applications which are on the ground, the so-called trackside market, our huge portfolio of industrial sensors can address customer requirements. No matter what the application, e.g. control & monitoring of lamps, crossing gates, points machines or DC-substations, LEM always offers dedicated solutions. Railway signals, points machines and other trackside equipment are mainly measured with Open Loop or Closed Loop transducers.

The new HTRS is an Open loop current transducer using the Hall effect. It features panel mounting, split core design for easy installation, insulating plastic case recognized according to UL 94-V0, and reverse polarity protection.

Energy metering

EM4TII railway energy metering system

Supporting international cross-border freight and passenger transport, an exact knowledge of consumed and regenerated energy of a railway vehicle is mandatory. For over 10 years, EM4TII+ has been the key element of several Energy Metering Systems (EMS) in Europe. It consists of the mandatory functions ECF (Energy Calculation Function) and DHS (Data Handling System).

Furthermore, it can be ordered as a subsystem or integrated into LEM’s EMS solution called TEMA4G which offers in addition the PEMG2 communication device transferring the energy data to the ground. EM4TII+ and TEMA4G are compatible with the most relevant current and voltage measurement devices (AC and DC), in particular with LEM’s DC current and voltage transducers (DV and ITC series).

NEW OLCI sensors

FRS FL Open Loop Coreless Integral sensors

Capable of measuring high DC currents from 2kA up to 42kA without surge current limitations, the Open Loop Coreless Integral (OLCI) sensors FL and FRS feature a large aperture for accurate measurement of high currents on large busbars, with up to 1MHz bandwidth for high-frequency applications. They are also significantly lighter (80%) and more cost-effective than open loop or closed loop current transducers operating within the same current measurement range.

Two versions of the new OLCI high current sensors are available from LEM – the FRS model supporting primary busbar apertures of 104mm x 22mm and the FL model for apertures up to 300mm x 100mm. The FL is a split-core sensor; it can be opened and attached directly anywhere on the busbar without the need to disconnect the busbar, making it easy to install and maintain.
