SMU – Single Monitoring Unit for Automotive applications

The SMU, or Single Monitoring Unit, is LEM’s latest current sensor designed for DC measurement in high-power, low-voltage automotive applications. It provides galvanic isolation between the primary (high power) and secondary (electronic) circuits.

The SMU family offers a variety of current measurement ranges within the same housing, from ±400 A to ±1500 A.

These automotive current sensors feature high insulation levels and operate within a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.

Designed for primary fastening installation, SMU sensors use Hall effect (open loop) technology, ensuring dependable and precise current measurements for electric vehicle applications.

Main characteristics

  • Open Loop sensor using the Hall effect sensor
  • High insulation level
  • Unipolar +5 V DC power supply
  • Primary current measuring range up to ±1500 A
  • Maximum RMS primary admissible current: defined by the busbar, the magnetic core or ASIC T < +125 °C
  • Operating temperature range: −40 °C < T < +125 °C
  • Output voltage: fully ratio-metric (in sensitivity and offset)
